Grey bodied salt glaze stoneware bowl or milk pan with impressed maker’s mark “E.S. Craven”. Enoch Craven (1810-1893) likely started producing wares in the early nineteenth century (Hatch et al. 2017: 81). This pan form, with a flat base and sloping sides, was the “universal form of bowl until after about 1860” (Greer 1981:97).
