Description:

Wine bottle seal with the letters C & P formed from separate letterheads held together for impressing onto the molten glass of the seal.  Dumbrell (1983:186) refers to this type of seal as a “matrice seal”.

The initials possibly stand for Cosmos Parsons, Catholic planter who lived in St. Mary's County in the late 17th and early 18th centuries.  Son of John Parsons (died 1688).  Cosmos Parsons shows up in St. Mary's County records between 1688 and 1734.
