Just to the right of the angel’s wings are the initials SW (see detail).  The initials together on the right hand side in this manner generally indicate a 2 quart jug. Skerry and Hood (2009:50) date these SW marked jugs to the period between 1715 and 1740. German brown stoneware Bartmann bottle with applied medallion and cobalt blue painting under the glaze. The medallion bears the date 1593, the initials RRK and depicts a double-headed eagle. This vessel would have been 14 to 15” in height. Sherd discovered off of Kent Island, possibly from disturbance of a now-submerged well from the William Claiborne Site, 18QU300.
