SITE DATA |

Baltimore County |
Site Name: |
Historic Site #1/Hoff/Dorsey |
Brief Description: |
Middle Woodland short-term camp; Late 18th- to early 19th-century house site |
Site Type: |
Historic/Prehistoric |
Site Notes: |
Phase I 1992, Phase I/II 1995, Phas III 1996. 1995 Phase II data seems to be combined into Phase III report. No records at the Mac Lab for the Phase II. Although Phase III testing resulted in the recovery of 15, 101 historic artifacts (of which 10,265 were architectural), the artifact counts for the features was relatively low. This suggests a brief occupation period (c. 1780-1800). A scarcity of vessels associated with storage and preparation of food may suggest that site was not occupied by a household. The site was possibly utilized as a toll house associated with the Old Reisterstown Turnpike c. 1787-1800.
Note: Several features are listed as "depression related" in the report. It is not clear, however, how or if they are related to each other. Therefore, I have avoided use of the "macrofeature" grouping. |
