ADDWAT V-2 (18PR370)
Site is located on upland piedmont or toe slope near stream drainage. The site is defined by the occurrence of
artifacts in shovel tests and in one 1 by 1 meter test unit. The site area is estimated at 1,350 square
meters. Historic road construction in the area north of the site may have destroyed a portion of the site.
In 1987 John Milner Associates conducted a Phase I survey of the Waterfront & Gudelski parcels of the PortAmerica development
project. 18PR370 was recorded during the survey. No report was ever submitted to MHT.
Phase II excavations were conducted in 1997 also by John Milner Associates. Artifacts recovered include both prehistoric
ceramics and late 19th century artifacts.
Prehistoric artifacts recovered include Potomac Creek, Moyoane, and Mockley wares. Late woodland ceramics were recovered
from a possible buried A horizon. No lithics were recovered from the site. Prehistoric material may occur below
the Ap. The prehistoric component at 18PR370 was recommended for further testing and could yield information regarding
agricultural or gathering activities.
The historic component lacks integrity and was not recommended for further testing.
