ADDWAT V-6 (18PR374)
Subsurface testing revealed a distinct cluster of prehistoric and historic artifacts. Site area is calculated
at 7,600 square meters. The historic artifacts may be related to a historic structure shown on historic maps. All
artifacts occur in the modern Ap horizons.
John Milner Associates conducted a Phase I survey of the Waterfront & Gudelski parcels of the PortAmerica development
project in 1987, and a Phase II investigation in 1997. 18PR374 site was recorded during the survey. No Phase I
report was ever submitted to MHT.
The site contains both prehistoric and historic components. The prehistoric component is defined by Late Woodland
ceramics to the eastern third of the site. The historic component also occupies the western two thirds of
the site. Artifacts for the historic component consist of whiteware, stoneware, a cut nail, bottle glass,
and glass buttons.
The low quantity of prehistoric artifacts suggest the prehistoric component is unlikely to produce significant information.
The presence of glass buttons and a cut nail suggest a structure or domestic dwelling may exist nearby and is recommended
for further evaluative testing.
