Oak Creek K (18PR669)
Site 18PR669 consists of a low density of materials dating from the late 18th-19th centuries and likely represents a tenant farm.
This site was identified by Archeological Testing and Consulting, Inc. (ATC) during Phase I testing in 2003. The site
consists of a historic artifact scatter. Fifteen positive shovel tests within a 350 by 350 foot area yielded 33
historic artifacts and one prehistoric quartz flake. The historic artifacts recovered included brick fragments, nail
fragments, window glass, coal, tobacco pipe fragments, olive container glass, stoneware, and whiteware. No features
or structures were discovered.
Phase II testing was conducted by ATC in November of 2004. The site area was re-shovel tested using
30- and 15-foot spacing intervals. The excavation of 3x3' test units followed the shovel testing.
Over 200 prehistoric and historic artifacts were recovered, resulting in a site dimension of 270' x 270'. While
testing recovered a variety of historic artifacts largely from the plowzone at the site, the Phase II
did not identify any intact features or cultural deposits. In addition, the investigations revealed varying
levels of disturbance from agricultural activities and erosion.
Based on the Phase II documentation, it was determined that 18PR669 does not meet the criteria for eligibility
in the National Register of Historic Places given its lack of potential to yield important
information and loss of integrity.
