Horlbeck Collection

Most of the relief molded jugs shown on the Diagnostic Artifacts page are from the former collection of Dr. Frank R. Horlbeck. Dr. Horlbeck was a professor of art history at the University of Wisconsin-Madison from 1958 to 1995. During his lifetime he collected relief molded jugs from the Victorian era. He graciously allowed MAC Lab staff to photograph examples from his collection for use on the website, since there were very few examples in our archaeological collections. Upon his death, Horlbeck bequeathed his jug collection to the Chazen Museum of Art at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
