Site History

The T.D. Jones Field O site (18BA155) is a Woodland village or base camp located on the Patapsco River near Landsdowne in Baltimore County, Maryland.

Archaeological Investigations

This five-acre site was initially identified in the late 19th century by Talbot D. Jones, an insurance underwriter who was also an active avocational archaeologist. Jones's collection and field notes were donated to Johns Hopkins University and were analyzed in 1980 by the Maryland Geological Survey Division of Archeology. Artifacts in Jones's collection from 18BA155 are curated at the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab. Artifacts collected by Jones included a bannerstone, an axe, a rhyolite blade, and projectile points. He also noted the presence of pottery in his field records. He also noted that the site had been hunted for years by collectors, including Col. William H. Love.
