Archaeological Investigations
This site was initially identified in the late 19th century by Talbot D. Jones, an insurance underwriter who was also an active avocational archaeologist. Jones's collection and field notes were donated to Johns Hopkins University and were analyzed in 1980 by the Maryland Geological Survey Division of Archeology. The artifacts listed in Jones's collection from 18BA159 are curated at the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Lab. Artifacts collected by Jones included a hammerstone, mortar, axes, a mortar, and projectile points. The site had been hunted by collectors prior to Jones’s work, according to his field notes.
In 1980, the site was visited by Kate Quinn and D. Schultz of the Baltimore County Office of Planning, but they did not collect any artifacts. In June of 2012, Tiffany Raszick of the Maryland State Highways Administration noted that the site had been destroyed by the construction of Interstate 695, Westland Boulevard, and residential development.
