Cooksey Road (18CH92)

Site History

The Cooksey Road site (18CH92) is a Paleoindian through Late Woodland short-term camp and Late Archaic base camp, with a possible Adena component located east of Bel Alton near Charles Street in Charles County, Maryland.

Archaeological Investigations

This site was reported to archaeologistTyler Bastian by Robert M. Rank in 1971. Bastian photographed Mr. Rank's collection, and the two photos are in the file. Wanser (1981) studied the Ogle and Egan collections, which were found to contain points dating from Paleoindian through Late Woodland, with much material dating to the Vernon and Holmes phases of the Late Archaic. In addition, the Ogle collection contains a quartzite point that Wanser identified as Adena.
