Medallion Site (18QU300)

Site History

The Medallion site (18QU300) is a contact period to early 17th-century site with a barrel well. The site is located on Kent Island in Queen Anne's County, Maryland.

Archaeological Investigations

The site seems to be a barrel well which has eroded out of the shore and was first observed by Darrin Lowery during a commercial clamming expedition in 1988, when the dredge brought up portions of a wooden barrel well and a German Stoneware medallion containing a date of 1593. The site is currently located below 5-7 feet of water.

In 1992, Maryland Historical Trust underwater archeologist Paul Hundley conducted underwater investigations in the area of the site.
