Archaeological Investigations

Janes Island site has never been the location of an archaeological investigation, but the site has been collected over the years by Harry Cox. The Cox collection was cataloged by Norma Wagner in 1976 and it included the following point types: Lehigh/Koens-Crispin broadspears, Lamoka-like, Selby Bay, Shriver expanded stem, Meadowood, Dry Brook-like fishtail, a side-notched point similar to Upper Ohio Valley types. The Cox collection also included Rappahannock fabric-impressed pottery and a gorget fragment. Avocational archaeologist Robert Goldsborough found a black chert Clovis point on the site.

The artifacts from this site are in private collections and not curated at the Maryland Archaeological Conservation Laboratory.
