Adell (46GT67)
Site History
Adell (46GT67) is a Middle Woodland period archaeological site located in the South Branch Valley of the Potomac River in the vicinity of Petersburg, West Virginia.
Archaeological Investigations
Phase I archaeological investigations at this site were conducted in 1986 by the Army Corps of Engineers, Baltimore District under the direction of Robert Wall. This work was followed up by phase II investigations in 1992. No discernible archaeological features were revealed at the site, although there were concentrations of mendable pottery sherds. The pottery sample from the site appears to be very similar to Watson ware and McGraw Cordmarked from the Upper Ohio Vally and dating to the Middle Woodland period. The archaeological work showed that the site had been extensively disturbed through flood erosion.
